We’re making some important changes to the Workspace feature in Pagico v5. If you are beta testing the Workspace feature and would like to upgrade to the latest v5 beta, please read this article as the change may affect your workspace experience.
Greetings Workspace testers! First of all, I’d like to thank you all for participating the Workspace beta program. The past few weeks has been tremendous for us in terms of receiving tons of valuable feedback, and most importantly, these weeks demonstrated that our Workspace design is robust enough for users’ daily use, and it proved that it simply works.
In the mean time, we discovered that due to the fact that the Workspace server identifies databases based on users’ computers, it got in the way with other data synchronization solutions such as the Dropbox, or the MobileMe iDisk feature. Simply put, once you moved or copied your database to a different computer, the Workspace will simply “kick you out” as it believes that this is an entirely different database.
Because of this design, users cannot use Dropbox (or similar approaches) to maintain synchronization among their own devices and join workspaces at the same time.
Recently, we’ve re-evaluated our options and made some necessary adjustments in our latest v5 beta build. Starting from this revision, the issue stated above will no longer exist — meaning that you can bring your database with you (on a flash drive, or sync via Dropbox or iDisk) and you can still work with your workspace.
Here’s what you need to do to complete the transition on your end:
- Update to the latest v5 beta build;
- Unfortunately, you’ll be kicked out of all your workspaces;
- Generate new invitation codes and re-join those workspaces (you’ll probably need to contact us to get those invitations re-created).
If you do not wish to go through these hassle at this moment, please do not upgrade to v5. The Pagico ID system will be online for public testing just few days. Then you will be able to create invitations by yourselves.
